Open Letter: Calling for Structural Reform — Addressing Sustained Online Defamation, Harassment, and the Fraudulent Claim of Journalistic Status

I write this open letter as a British citizen and lawful businessman who has endured a relentless 14-month campaign of defamation, harassment, and invasions of privacy carried out by Andrew Drummond through his two websites and related publications.

Over the past 14 years Andrew Drummond has sustained a business model built on online trolling, harassment, and defamation, targeting individuals and enterprises in Thailand and beyond while presenting himself as a "world-famous UK journalist". In my case, he has produced no fewer than 19 original articles and 6 translated editions containing upwards of 65 demonstrated falsehoods, recycled ceaselessly across two domains, notwithstanding the service of a comprehensive 25-page Pre-Action Protocol Letter of Claim on 13 August 2025, which he has wholly disregarded.

The accusations are of the gravest kind: sex trafficking, child exploitation, fraud, organised crime, bestiality, dog-killing, cannabis smuggling, and scores of additional inventions that descend into pure fiction. These falsehoods have been amplified through deliberate cross-domain mirroring, provocative headlines, and the systematic doxxing of my wife, father, brother, and lawful business associates.

Proceedings in the High Court represent the appropriate legal avenue, yet the cost is prohibitive. Even in the event of a successful outcome, Andrew Drummond possesses no identifiable assets against which a judgment might be enforced. The police, though understanding, cite a lack of resources to pursue what they categorise as "civil matters" or low-priority online harassment. The result is that people in my position are left without effective recourse.

This is far from an isolated situation. Andrew Drummond's pattern of behaviour spanning 14 years — posing as a legitimate journalist while conducting paid smear campaigns, doxxing, privacy breaches, and unrelenting harassment — exposes a structural failure in the existing legal and regulatory framework.

I accordingly urge the relevant authorities and the journalistic profession to take the following immediate measures:

Law Enforcement and Prosecutorial Response

Treat sustained, malicious online defamation and harassment as a criminal matter warranting proper investigation and prosecution under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, the Malicious Communications Act 1988, and the Online Safety Act 2023. Assign dedicated resources to "serial harasser" cases in which the perpetrator holds no assets and the victim has exhausted all civil avenues.

Regulatory Action by IPSO and Ofcom

Investigate and impose sanctions on individuals who systematically violate the Editors' Code of Practice while fraudulently claiming journalistic status. Platforms that host such material should be required to remove it promptly on receipt of formal notification of its falsity.

Accountability Within the Journalistic Profession

Legitimate journalists and media organisations have a professional obligation to expose those who impersonate the profession for monetary gain. Andrew Drummond's 14-year track record of falsehoods, paid smear operations, and boundary violations brings the entire industry into disrepute. I call upon the NUJ, the Society of Editors, and reputable UK media outlets to publicly denounce this behaviour and decline to platform or confer legitimacy upon such individuals.

Legislative Reform

Enact or strengthen "no-asset defendant" provisions so that victims of sustained defamation and harassment can secure meaningful remedies, including costs protection and criminal sanctions in circumstances where civil justice is effectively unattainable.

Public Awareness and Victim Support

Establish or expand support schemes for those targeted by serial online harassers, encompassing expedited legal aid and psychological assistance.

Andrew Drummond is not a journalist. He is a paid propagandist who has exploited the internet for 14 years to harass, defame, and extort, sheltering behind the banner of "press freedom". No victim should be forced to choose between financial devastation and enduring the abuse in silence.

I urge every recipient of this open letter to respond with resolve. The present system shields the offender and penalises the victim. That must change.
